01 Jan Tips on Caring For Your Wood Furniture
For anyone that has wooden furniture in their homes, it is extremely important to take good care of your beautiful pieces to make sure they stand the test of time and beauty. Wood furniture is the best of all worlds – it’s timeless, durable, and stunningly eye-catching. To keep your wood furniture looking like new, follow these tips for wood furniture care.
Keep Away from the Heat
Wood is not a friend of heat. Place your wooden pieces away from heat sources, this will greatly increase the lifetime of your cherished pieces. Even heat from direct sunlight can deteriorate your pieces over time so consider moving them away from the window or putting up curtains. Also, be aware of where your heating units and/or air conditioning vents are located and try to avoid putting your wooden pieces near them.
Get Your Mug Off Of The Coffee Table
That’s right, your mother was right to tell you to use a coaster. Water can be just as damaging (if not more) as heat on wood pieces. Water can leave rings or bubbles on your wood’s finish so always use a coaster. Make sure to use coasters such as cork or felt coasters that capture the water and stop it from dripping onto your furniture. Rubber or plastic pads are not recommended on wood due to the small amount of damage they can add to the wood’s finish.
Clean, Clean, Clean
Always keep your wood clean and clear. Make sure to clean up any spills or messes off of the surface as quickly as possible so it doesn’t stain or blemish the finish. On top of this, dust your furniture on a regular basis. To do this, simply use a damp towel (or microfiber cloth) and wipe all exposed surfaces. If you see grease on the wood surface, use a mixture of oil soap and water to get your piece looking clean again. The most important part of all of this – make sure to follow the direction of the grain when cleaning.
